Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani gave details about a warning issued by the Iranian naval forces to the USS Florida nuclear-powered submarine in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which made it to surface and change direction.
This submarine, while submerged, was approaching the Strait of Hormuz where it was detected by Iran’s domestically-made and fully indigenous Fateh Submarine,” the Iranian commander said on Iranian national TV, adding that Fateh Submarine conducted maneuvers, forcing the American submarine to surface and go through the Strait of Hormuz on the surface.
The American submarine was approaching Iran’s territorial waters, the military official said, adding that the vessel – which he identified as Florida nuclear-powered submarine – changed its path while escorted.
“This submarine, using all its modern-day capacities, was doing its best to pass the Strait of Hormuz in total silence when it was detected by Fateh Submarine,” Irani said.
He called for an explanation from the US side as to why they have breached laws in such a crucial waterway, warning them that, from now on, they should abide by international regulations.
