Senior Israeli military officers believe that the continuation of the war has become a heavy burden on the Zionist entity, Israeli media reported, amid internal dispute over funding for its ongoing aggression on the besieged strip.
The Israeli occupation military establishment’s assessment indicates that Hamas remains interested in reaching an agreement, but its terms have not changed despite regional developments, Haaretz Israeli newspaper reported on Monday, citing senior army officers.
Security sources believe the likelihood of reaching a deal on Gaza is increasing, but attribute this to a shift in the general mood in the so-called “Israeli society”, especially regarding protests by families of Israeli captives held in Gaza, the Israeli paper noted.
“Army officers believe that the continuation of the war has become a heavy burden, both due to the exhaustion among soldiers and the rising death toll” since the resumption of war on Gaza last March.

The newspaper quoted a senior Israeli officer as saying: “Two years after the war, there is no strike that can be directed at Hamas which would change the status quo. We can carry out new incursions and exert more pressure, but we face significant restrictions due to the presence of captives inside the Strip, which exacerbates tensions among the forces in the battlefield.”
Internal Rift over War Financing
Earlier on Sunday, Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported an internal dispute over funding for its ongoing military assault in Gaza.
“The Defense Ministry is asking for an addition of 60 billion shekels to its budget to pay for the war against Iran and the latest offensive on Gaza, both military operations that were not included in the 2025 budget bill,” reported the daily.

Finance Ministry officials have been resisting this request, citing concerns over increased costs associated with the mobilization of reserve troops and the overall defense budget, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.
It added that senior defense officials expressed frustration, saying the Finance Ministry has withheld funds previously approved by a joint defense commission, hampering the army’s ability to procure urgent equipment, including Arrow missile interceptors and armored vehicles for troops operating in Gaza.
