Al-Rasoul Al-Aazam (PBUH) Hospital announced an exceptional medical achievement at the Beirut Heart Center. A heart is beating again without surgery!
The hospital indicated that, as part of its advanced program for treating structural heart disease via catheterization, Al-Rasoul Al-Aazam Hospital, Beirut Heart Center, is pleased to announce a rare medical achievement.
Two patients suffering from acute failure of an artificial heart valve due to a blood clot, a serious and complex condition that could be immediately life-threatening, were saved, it added.
“Despite the use of drug therapy, their conditions did not improve, and the third surgical option was considered high-risk, given that the patients had previously undergone two open-heart surgeries. Faced with this challenge, the medical team opted for a precise, non-surgical interventional solution by freeing the valve using a catheter and micro-balloons, without the need to open the chest.”
The operation was successfully performed under the supervision of Dr. Wassef Qaraouni, Head of the Structural Interventional Cardiology Unit, the statement underlined.
“This success is part of the development of the hospital’s Structural Heart Disease Program, which now offers:
– Precise, non-surgical catheter valve treatment (TAVI, Mitral clip, etc.)
– Safe alternatives for complex medical conditions
– Techniques that ensure faster recovery and a better quality of life
It is Medicine intersects with hope, making a difference through wise decisions and precise catheterization… not just through surgery.”
