Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani is scheduled to visit Iraq soon as part of a regional diplomacy drive which has seen him holding meetings with senior officials from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates over the past 10 days.
Shamkhani, Iran’s top security official, will visit Iraq soon to discuss security challenges as well as economic and banking issues that are key to help Iran and Iraq help maintain trade ties worth more than $10 billion per year.
The visit will be aimed at speeding up the implementation of economic agreements between Iran and Iraq and facilitating banking cooperation between the two neighbors, according to an IRNA report.
Shamkhani was on a visit to the UAE on Thursday, a week after he negotiated a deal in the Chinese capital Beijing to restore Iran’s diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia.
