President Michel Aoun met on Wednesday the Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, asking him to determine the causes of the Lebanese pound fall to new low of 10,000 to US Dollar and file a complaint to the Public Prosecution of Finance against all who were involved in the crime of speculation.
President Aoun also inquired Salameh about the mechanism of restoring the amounts of money transferred to foreign banks, highlighting the importance of preserving the citizens’ deposits.
President Aoun stressed that he followed up all the popular protests against the financial collapse, maintaining the citizens’ right to hold demonstrations.
Lebanon’s pound tumbled on Tuesday towards 10,000 to the dollar, a record low for a currency battered by a financial meltdown that has fuelled poverty and unrest.
