Secretary-General of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi has called for a probe into the cases of people who have been victim of terrorist attacks and chemical weapons at the international level.
Gharibabadi on Saturday underlined the fact that Iran is “the biggest victim of chemical weapons in the world”, adding that chemical weapons have killed more than 13,000 Iranians and injured 100,000 more.
He said some of the veterans of the Iraqi-imposed war on Iran of the 1980s still suffer from the impacts of chemical weapons and even lose their lives.
The Iranian official hailed the good actions taken by NGOs to expose the crimes against the victims of chemical weapons.
He noted that 16 Western countries equipped Saddam’s regime with chemical weapons during the war on Iran more than three decades ago.
A probe covering the legal, judicial, and international aspects of the cases related to terror and chemical attacks victims are very important, he said, adding that Iran has launched a lawsuit in the international court in the Netherlands to follow up on the case.
