Lebanon recorded 341 coronavirus cases and two deaths over the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry reported Monday.
The total number of cases in Lebanon now sits at 555,643 and 7,894 deaths since the virus was first discovered in Lebanon in February 2020.
Out of Monday’s cases, one was recorded among an incoming traveler to Lebanon. The new cases were detected from 14,426 tests, resulting in a two-week positivity rate of 4.6 percent.
The Health Ministry also reported that 215 individuals were in hospital with the virus, with 91 patients in intensive care and 15 on ventilators.
Monday’s report often has a lower number of cases than on other days due many testing laboratories being closed over the weekend.
A further 432 first stage coronavirus vaccines were handed out along with 1,431 second dose vaccines, adding to a total of 799,584 individuals or 16.8 percent of the eligible population who are fully vaccinated.
Lebanon is witnessing a new wave of coronavirus infections following the detection of the Delta variant at the start of July. Daily numbers have climbed while recorded deaths from the virus have remained in single figures.
Health experts have sounded the alarm over the rise in cases that the country’s hospitals might not be able to cope. The health sector has been struggling amid the country’s severe economic crisis which has drained resources and funding.
