Lebanon recorded Sunday 32 new coronavirus deaths and 2,130 more cases, as the country began inoculating its population against the disease.
The health ministry report said the cases were detected among 11,693 tests, with only 14 cases recorded among travelers arriving from abroad, raising the total number of cases to 339,122. The positivity rate of the tests in the last two weeks stood at 20 percent.
According to the report, 32 new coronavirus-related death cases were registered, which raised toll to 3,993.
Lebanon has started on February 8 a four-phase plan to ease a total lockdown and reopen the economic sectors.
The government imposed its strictest lockdown yet in early January, with 24-hour curfews and only basic services operating after record death tolls.
Today, Lebanon launched its inoculation campaign a day after receiving the first batch of the vaccine — 28,500 doses from Brussels, near where Pfizer has a manufacturing facility. More were expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
