Lebanese caretaker Minister of Public Health Hamad Hassan said Monday he made recommendation to lock down the country for two weeks after surge in coronavirus cases.

Hasan said he made a recommendation to the government’s coronavirus committee about the necessity to reimpose a two-week lockdown amid the surge in the number of Covid-19 cases nationwide, National News Agency reported.

The minister said the recommendation was not hasty and aims at raising the ability of the hospitals to receive coronavirus patients.

“The challenge is mainly in the north, Beirut and the south,” Hassan said following a meeting for the committee.

“In the north, we shall beef up logistics; and Al-Minieh Hospital will be transformed into a center admitting coronavirus cases only,” he explained.

Lebanon registered high record in coronavirus cases on Sunday, with ministry of Public Health announcing 1,006 infections and 11 related deaths in last 24 hours.
