The Amal Movement and Syrian Social Nationalist Party Sunday condemned the Saudi-led airstrike on a funeral home which killed at least 140 people and wounded more than 525 others in the Yemeni capital Sanaa one day earlier.
“The unjustified targeting of a funeral home, which led to the deaths of hundreds of innocent believers, goes deeply against the religion of Islam’s insistence on having the month of Muharram be a month of peace,” Amal movement said in a statement.
Amal also called on leaders of the Arab world to put an end to the Yemen crisis by reverting to dialogue. “A return to dialogue between Arab and Islamic countries is essential to finding political solutions and insist on unity, especially in the face of takfiri terrorism,” the statement said.
The SSNP accused the Saudi-led coalition of launching a “war on the Yemeni civilization.”
“The war on Yemen has taken a serious turn ever since the coalition decided to defy international laws that call for the protection of civilians, especially women and children. … The war crimes being committed in Yemen are mirroring those of the ‘Israeli’ aggressor against our people in Palestine and Lebanon,” the SSNP said in a statement.
Tawhid Party chief Wiam Wahhab blamed the airstrike on Saudi King Salman, calling him a “war criminal.”
“Why aren’t Salman bin Abdulaziz and his ilk considered war criminals after one of their airstrikes caused more than 700 casualties at once?,” Wahhab remarked in a tweet Sunday.
“The US is complicit if it doesn’t put a halt to the massacres in Yemen, and both the Saudi King and his son should be tried in a court of justice,” he added.
Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad blamed the airstrikes on the US, dubbing the current happenings in Yemen a “genocide.”
“The Great Satan America is sponsoring all of this bloodshed and standing behind forces that aim to destabilize our region. … This is an ongoing genocide against the Yemeni people,” MP Raad said Sunday during an Ashoura-related event in the southern city of Nabatieh.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah had condemned the strike Saturday during an Ashoura commemoration, saying it was “normal and expected” for Saudi Arabia to carry out such an attack.
