Syrian army forces managed to expel ISIL terrorists from territories to the south of the Syrian airbase in Deir Ezzor, a military source told Sputnik on Saturday.
“The Syrian army regained control over the Faraj territory to the south from the airfield. Several ISIL militants were killed near the cemetery and in Al Arfi quarter,” the source said.
On Friday, Syrian President Bashar Assad’s adviser said that the Syrian army continues military operations to free Deir Ezzor and Raqqa from terrorists.
Deir Ezzor and its military air base have been under siege by ISIL for over three years, with food and ammunition only delivered by air. In March, the Syrian army repelled ISIL’s attacks near the Deir Ezzor airfield.
