Passengers departing from Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport will no longer be allowed to carry large electronics in cabin baggage on United Kingdom-bound aircraft as of Saturday.

Based on the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Transportation’s new restrictions on electronic devices aboard flights bound to the UK, Beirut International Airport said new safety measures will be enacted as of the midnight of March 25, 2017, the National News Agency reported.

Electronic smart phones or tablets larger than 16 cm will not be allowed in carryon luggage, a statement issued by Rafik Hariri International airport said on Wednesday.

Britain announced new travel restrictions Tuesday, after the United States imposed a similar ban on planes arriving from 10 airports in Muslim-majority countries.

Lebanon was not on the US list, but will be affected by Britain’s ban.

Speaking of the new travel restrictions, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Theresa May told reporters: “Direct flights to the U.K. from these destinations continue to operate subject to these new measures being in place.”
