Iran believes that the West complicates the situation in Ukraine by shipping weapons to Kiev, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Wednesday.
“The fact that [Western states] arm Ukraine – we believe that this complicates the situation,” he said during a press conference in the wake of talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
The Iranian Foreign Minister noted that it is necessary to rely on political settlement in particular.
“We welcome any initiative that would contribute to peaceful settlement of tensions,” he noted. “Ahead of the trip to Moscow, I talked with Mr. [EU High Representative Josep] Borrell, and pointed towards the political settlement of the issue.”
According to the Minister, Iran is ready to continue its efforts on the level of the President and the Foreign Ministry on achievement of peace in Ukraine.
“We are ready, at the level of the President, at the level of Foreign Ministers, to continue our efforts in order to achieve peace, tranquility and end of the war; we hope that optimal results will be achieved on this path as well,” he noted.
The Iranian Foreign Minister underscored that he also conveyed this position to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
