US administration notified Congress an arms sale worth more than $23 billion to the United Arab Emirates will proceed, congressional aides stated Tuesday.
The sale includes the advanced F-35 stealth fighter jet, which has raised concerns in “Israel” over retaining the entity’s qualitative military edge.
A State Department official said the approval comes “even as we continue reviewing details and consulting with Emirati officials.”
US President Joe Biden previously placed the weapons deal on hold for review. His predecessor, Donald Trump, inked the deal following the so-called ‘Deal of the Century.’
A spokesperson for the State Department said the US would maintain “a robust and sustained dialogue with the UAE” to maintain and strengthen the partnership with the Gulf country.
“We will also continue to reinforce with the UAE and all recipients of US ‘defense’ articles and services that US-origin defense equipment must be adequately secured and used in a manner that respects human rights and fully complies with the laws of armed conflict,” the spokesperson stated.
