Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday evening attended a religious celebration marking the Prophet Mohammad’s birth anniversary in Damascus.
SANA news agency released an image showing president Assad participating in the celebration at Ebad al-Rahman Mosque in Kafar Souseh area in Damascus.
The ceremony was attended sheikh Hussam-Eddin Farfour, and Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Minister Mohammad Abdelsattar al-Sayyed who gave a speech, according to SANA.
Al-Sayyed said that Syria today is fighting extremists and confronting with its moderate interpretation of Islam those who promote the perverted Wahabism, adding that now the society has become aware of the difference between being religious and being a fanatic.
