Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed that “the quorum for the next election session is settled (…) and there is no need for confusion.”
In a chat with his media entourage in Geneva, Berri said that he would attend the presidential election session along with his bloc members, stressing, once again, that the “greater effort is to be made after the election of the president,” and that “the basic issue is to draft a new election law.”
On the other hand, Berri held, on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, several meetings with counterparts and parliamentary delegations participating in the Assembly.
He met with his Australian counterpart, Tony Smith, in the presence of MPs Yassin Jaber and Bassem Shabb, with talks touching on the developments in Lebanon and the region and means to boost bilateral relations.
The pair also tackled the active role of the Lebanese community in Australia.
Berri later met with the Pakistani Speaker of the House, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and discussed with him the situation in the Middle East and cooperation between the Lebanese and Pakistani parliaments.
He also held a meeting with the President of the Senate of Pakistan, who invited Berri to visit his country.
