The two main rivals in Libya’s conflict, UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj and eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar, began talks Tuesday brokered by French President Emmanuel Macron on ending their country’s war.

UN envoy Ghassan Salame also attended the discussions outside Paris, which are expected to see agreement on a ceasefire and on holding elections as soon as possible.
