Syrian on Friday confirmed one of its army points near the southern town of Tanf was attacked, describing the strike as a flagrant attack.
“[On Thursday,] at 4:30 pm [local time; 1:30 pm GMT], the so-called coalition attacked a position of the Syrian Army on the At Tanf highway in the Syrian desert, which led to casualties and material loss,” Syrian Defense Ministry told state TV, Sputnik reported.
Meanwhile, a military source said the strike reveals the real scheme by the US and Zionist entity against Syria.
“The flagrant attack by the US-led coalition on Syrian army posts in Tanf exposes the real scheme by US and Zionist entity against Syria,” the source said.
“The Syrian army has been fighting terrorism on its territories and no party has the right to do so,” the source added, stressing that the Syrian military will go ahead with countering terrorism and that “it will not be intimidated by the so-called coalition’s attacks.”
Earlier on Thursday the US-led coalition announced it had bombed “pro-Syrian regime forces” near Tanf, a remote base in southern Syria near the Syria-Jordan-Iraq border.
A statement by the coalition said the Syrian forces “posed a threat to US and partner forces at Tanf.”
