The Lebanese government held on Thursday the weekly session amid a political rift that stormed the country’s politics over the military appointments file and the controversial national pact.
The Free Patriotic Movement and Tashnaq party considered that the national pact is not preserved and boycotted the ministerial sessions, and Hezbollah joined them in a solidarity move.
Information Minister, Ramzi Jreij, read the cabinet decisions in the wake of today’s session and relayed Prime Minister Tammam Salam’s confirmation concerning the constitutionality of the ministerial meeting.
“Prime Minister Tammam Salam said, ‘today’s session is constitutional and the cabinet’s productivity is a key factor to keep it going. We have to ignore those aiming at disruption,'” Jreij said as quoting the Prime Minister’s words.
“The Prime Minister also confirmed that halting dialogue sessions has sure left a negative impact on the country’s overall atmosphere,” Jreij added, noting that Salam seized the opportunity of today’s convening cabinet session to provide more space for discussions over solutions to the current situation.
