Israeli occupation forces carried out a direct strike on a Lebanese Army checkpoint on Sunday, in what marks a significant escalation in the ongoing series of cross-border violations by the Israeli enemy in southern Lebanon.
According to local reports, an Israeli drone launched two missiles targeting a military checkpoint on the main road connecting the towns of Beit Yahoun and Kounin in the Bint Jbeil district—an essential route that links southern villages to the central sector, particularly to the town of Tebnine.
A civilian small van vehicle sustained a direct hit during the attack while passing the checkpoint. The missiles struck inside the military post, hitting guard positions and defensive structures.
Initial reports indicate that one or two Lebanese soldiers were injured by shrapnel and were transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Al-Manar correspondent Ali Shoeib described the scene in the aftermath of the Israeli drone strike, as footage showed the wreckage of a civilian vehicle near the Lebanese Army checkpoint on the Beit Yahoun–Kounin road, with smoke rising and debris scattered across the area—underscoring the precision and proximity of the strike.
Violation of Military Sovereignty
The Israeli strike made no distinction between military and civilian presence and targeted the checkpoint in broad daylight, despite its known location and its daily use by dozens of vehicles.
Ongoing Israeli drone activity was reported over the area both before and after the strike, part of what has become a near-constant presence of surveillance aircraft in Lebanese airspace, particularly over the south.
Later on Sunday, Israeli occupation soldiers positioned near the fence of the Metula settlement opened fire on a vehicle in the Lebanese border town of Kfar Kila, according to Al-Manar’s correspondent.
In a separate incident, the Israeli occupation forces fired low-altitude illumination shells over the al-Shahl area, south of Shebaa, in an apparent attempt to ignite fires in the surrounding terrain.
International Silence and Diplomatic Stalemate
The incident comes amid continued international silence and growing frustration with the failure of the Quintet Committee and its sponsoring nations to curb the Israeli enemy’s widening military campaign in Lebanon.
What once appeared to be limited to strikes on residential areas and civilian infrastructure has now extended to direct attacks on Lebanese military positions, as seen in Beit Yahoun.
