The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, issued a stern warning on the resurgence of terrorist and extremist groups in Syria, urging for “decisive and coordinated measures” to prevent the spread of terrorism across the region.
Baghaei described recent movements of terrorist factions in Syria over the past two days as part of a “sinister plot” orchestrated by the Israeli occupation regime and the United States to destabilize security in West Asia. He emphasized the critical need for vigilance and cooperation among regional countries, particularly Syria’s neighbors, to thwart this dangerous conspiracy.

He further cautioned that any delay in addressing terrorist activities in Syria could jeopardize the significant achievements made in combating terrorism over recent years, plunging the region into a new cycle of insecurity and instability.
Highlighting existing agreements under the Astana Peace Process, Baghaei noted that areas such as Aleppo’s countryside and Idlib are designated de-escalation zones by the guarantor states—Iran, Turkey, and Russia. He condemned recent terrorist attacks in these areas as blatant violations of these agreements, warning that such actions endanger the positive outcomes of the Astana process and pose a serious threat to regional stability.
