The Foreign Ministry of Iran condemned the baseless and unlawful sanctions the European Union has recently imposed on Tehran.
In a statement on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned and categorically rejected the “groundless, illegal and interventionist” move by the European Union and the UK to impose new sanctions against a number of Iranian individuals and entities.
“Apparently the addiction to sanctions has thrown rationality and tactfulness of the European sides into isolation. With such wrong approach, this is Europe that is tightening the circle of its interactions at its own hands,” he added.
Kanaani emphasized that Iran relies on its national power and its experiences in dealing with the imposed challenges with activism, will take “proportional and effective” action prudently and firmly on the basis of national interests and dignity against such futile and unconstructive measures, and reserves the right to response.
On Monday, the European Union foreign ministers approved a new round of sanctions against Iran over what they called its crackdown on protests.
The bloc targeted 29 individuals and three entities with asset freezes and travel bans.
