Iran condemned on Sunday a meeting held between French President Emmanuel Macron and an anti-Iran personality along with figures accompanying her.
Such an anti-Iran measure will surely remain in the memory of the great Iranian people, Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on Sunday.
It is unexpected that a president of a country that is a so-called advocate of freedom undermines his position and meets with a hated puppet who in recent months had openly made hate speeches and tried to intensify terror acts inside Iran and against its diplomatic centers outside the country, Kanaani noted.
Further, the spokesman slammed Macron’s remarks to call protests in Iran a “revolution.”
Kanaani stressed that Macron’s meeting is a clear violation of France’s international responsibilities in the fight against terrorism and aggression.
Macron received on Friday a delegation of foreign-backed Iranian women who are opposed to the Islamic Republic, on the sidelines of the Paris Peace Forum.
Iran Hits Back at Germany’s Scholz
Earlier on Saturday, Kanaani decried recent “interfering, provocative and undiplomatic” remarks from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has criticized Iran for what he called “violence against protestors”.
“Sadly, a number of self-proclaimed advocates of human rights have used human rights for their political games by forgetting their dark record against the noble and resistant people of Iran by providing blind and inhumane support for the Saddam regime, abiding by the cruel sanctions after the US’ withdrawal from the JCPOA, and remaining silent on the terrorist activities of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), the most recent of which was the terrorist attack at the holy shrine of Shah-e Cheragh (in Iran’s Shiraz),” Kanaani said in a statement cited by Iranian media.
The Iranian spokesman warned Germany that destroying the historical bonds with Iran will have long-term consequences.
“There is a litany of the human rights issues that the Islamic Republic of Iran demands of German officials. Therefore, this is Germany that must make the past transparent responsibly.”
Kanaani advised the German authorities to restore rationality to relations with Iran and prevent more chaos in the bilateral ties, stressing that mutual respect and interests make the only path to sustainable cooperation.
Scholz said on Saturday that he favors a new round of European Union sanctions on Iran next week, accusing Tehran of allegedly being violent.
