Scholars in Bahrain urge the people on Thursday to be patient and steadfast in order to face this critical stage which the country is witnessing.
A joint statement signed by a number of scholars in the Gulf Kingdom called on Bahrainis to unite and follow the wise leadership represented by prominent Shia cleric, Ayatollah Sheikh Issa al-Qassem.
“We stress the importance of abiding by the national consensus in adopting peacefulness,” the statement said.
“We call upon our people to follow the wise leadership of Sheikh Issa al-Qassem, especially in crucial decisions which require assessment of the national interest,” the statement added.
Tensions are high in Bahrain this week, after Al-Khalifa regime executed three pro-democracy activists for alleged involvement in a 2014 bombing that killed an Emirati officer assisting Manama in its clampdown on Bahraini demonstrators.
Shortly after the Bahraini regime announced the executions on Sunday, angered protesters took to streets voicing rejection to crackdown against dissents and stressing that their trial was grossly unfair and relied on forced confessions.
Regime forces responded to protests by firing pellets and teargas canisters and injuring a number of the demonstrators.
Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others wounded or detained amid Manama’s crackdown on dissent and widespread discrimination against the country’s Shia majority.
Sheikh Qassem himself was stripped of his citizenship in June 20, over his support for reform in the kingdom.
