Senior Israeli diplomatic officials quoted by Israeli Channel 12 news accuse former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “sacrificing” ties with the United States for his political interests.
“He knows the importance of our strategic alliance with the United States and he is aware of the damage it is causing,” a source told the channel. “It’s sad,” he added.
A second source accused the Likud opposition leader of trying to drive a wedge between the government of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Alternate Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and the administration of US President Joe Biden.
“He is trolling and even the White House knows he is trolling,” the source said, as cited by i24News.
Neither source has been named.
Earlier on Monday, Netanyahu accused Lapid of harming ‘Israeli security’ by agreeing to a “no surprises” policy with the United States, which he said would “hamper Israel’s ability to act independently against Iran.”
