The new judicial investigator in the Beirut Port explosion, Judge Tarek Bitar, headed to his office at the Justice Palace in Beirut this morning, to review the file in preparation for the start of the investigation.
Judge Bitar was appointed on Friday after the Court of Cassation had issued a decision to remove judge Fadi Sawwan from the probe.
It is worth noting that Sawwan’s investigation had failed to identify the real culprit involved in importing and storing the huge amounts of ammonium nitrate which exploded on August 4, 2020, which killed around 200 citizens, injured more than 6000 others, and destroyed most of the port constructions and a large number of houses in Beirut.
