French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, on Wednesday morning contacted by phone Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Charbel Wehbe, in the wake of the horrific explosions that shook Beirut yesterday evening.
Minister Le Drian expressed his pain for this tragedy, stressing that France stands in this ordeal by the Lebanese, as it has always done.
The Minister reiterated his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the many injured.
The French minister said France will provide assistance to Lebanon at the request of the Lebanese government.
Le Drian pointed out that the French assistance will be dispatched to Lebanon this afternoon, comprised of several planes, including two military planes of the French Army, in addition to a team of the civil defense, emergency unit personnel and a mobile health center by the Ministry of the Interior, allowing the treatment of 500 wounded.
“Lebanon and the Lebanese know well that they can count on France in these difficult times,” Le Drian concluded.
