The total number of people who have contracted the coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 100,000, the Health Ministry spokesperson announced, noting that over 80,000 positive cases have recovered from the viral disease.
In comments at a daily press conference on Tuesday, Kianoosh Jahanpoor said the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country has risen to 99,970 after the detection of 1,323 new cases since Monday noon.
He said 80,475 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease so far and have been discharged from the hospital.
According to Jahanpoor, the coronavirus death toll in Iran has risen to 6,340 after 63 patients lost their lives during the past 24 hours, showing a decline compared to a day before.
Among the coronavirus patients undergoing treatment in the hospital at present, 2,685 have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, he said.
The spokesperson also noted that more than 519,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
More than 3,659,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, and the death toll has exceeded 252,000.
