In Tehran’s Hour of Mourning, Qalibaf Draws Red Line: US, ‘Israel’ Must Honor Commitments or Pay Price

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned that Tehran will not hesitate to take “appropriate and proportional measures” should the United States and the Israeli regime fail to honor their international commitments, delivering the firm ultimatum during a high-level meeting with a Belarusian envoy amid sprawling funeral ceremonies in the capital.

Qalibaf made the remarks on Friday during talks with Igor Sergeenko, speaker of Belarus’s House of Representatives, who arrived in Tehran to pay respects following the assassination of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

Expressing gratitude for Minsk’s high-level participation and its steadfast support during the recent US-Israeli war of aggression, Qalibaf thanked Belarus for its condolences and principled positions following the Leader’s martyrdom. He reiterated that while Iran remains fully committed to implementing all bilateral and multilateral agreements, it will respond decisively to any aggression—and warned that if Washington and Tel Aviv renege on their pledges, Tehran will resume necessary countermeasures without delay.

The parliament speaker asserted that the United States has come to realize, through the recent conflict, that it cannot confront Iran militarily. He dismissed Israeli claims as unsubstantiated propaganda, noting that despite massive efforts, adversaries failed to achieve their objectives and were ultimately compelled to request a ceasefire. Qalibaf further contended that Washington’s attempt to draw NATO and its allies into the confrontation also fell flat, while Iran’s missile capabilities remained fully intact—debunking enemy assertions of their destruction. He emphasized that both friends and foes now recognize the current agreements as a clear testament to US failure.

Turning to regional strategy, Qalibaf said Iran has effectively combined its defensive strength with expanded cooperation among neighboring states, working closely to prevent US interference in regional affairs.

The speaker also stressed the importance of broadening cooperation with Belarus and other nations that oppose unilateralism, particularly within multilateral frameworks such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He underscored the need to deepen political, economic, and parliamentary ties between Tehran and Minsk, while congratulating Belarus on its national day.

For his part, Sergeenko conveyed President Alexander Lukashenko’s heartfelt condolences over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, as well as Iranian military commanders and civilians. He said he had been personally instructed to express the full solidarity of the Belarusian government and people with Iran.

Describing the late Leader as a towering political figure who made indelible contributions to Iran’s development and strength, Sergeenko acknowledged that his loss is profoundly felt by the Iranian nation and supporters worldwide. He condemned Israeli aggression against Iran, stressing that attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are entirely unacceptable, and affirmed that true friendship is revealed in difficult times—reiterating that Belarus considers Iran a trusted friend.

Voicing opposition to unilateralism and hegemonic dominance in international affairs, Sergeenko expressed Minsk’s readiness to expand cooperation with Tehran across political, economic, cultural, and social domains, and to further strengthen parliamentary ties within international platforms, including BRICS and the Non-Aligned Movement.
