Germany’s Failure to Win UNSC Seat Result of Irresponsible Policies: Iran

Iranian Foreign Ministry said Germany’s failure to win a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council is a clear sign of global opposition to Berlin’s irresponsible policies in West Asia.

In a post on X on Friday, the Iranian ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei said Germany’s failure to secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council — for the first time in decades — is a stark rebuke from the international community.

“It reflects growing global outrage over the German ruling establishment’s irresponsible, hypocritical, and complicit stance toward the genocide in Gaza and US-Israel’s military aggression against Iran,” he added.

Germany, one of the largest suppliers of lethal weapons to Israel, has consistently justified the genocide of Palestinians, the Iranian diplomat noted.

When the Israeli regime launched its aggression on Iran, Berlin refused to condemn it; instead, it shamelessly described it as “dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us,” Baqaei said.

The world is changing, he continued, noting that nations are no longer judging governments by their lofty rhetoric about international law, but by their actual behavior.

For the first time, Germany has failed to win a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul blamed Russia, but also admitted Germany’s steadfast support for Israel cost it votes.
