Iran’s Strait of Hormuz Management Authority Defines Supervisory Zone

Iran introduced the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) as a new institutional mechanism to regulate and oversee vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian body overseeing the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf has delineated a specific supervisory zone for managing the strategic waterway.

In a statement posted late Wednesday on its official X account, the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) defined the supervisory management zone of the waterway in both Persian and English languages.

It defined the management zone as “the line connecting Mount Mubarak in Iran and southern Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, on the eastern side of the strait, extending to the line connecting the end of Qeshm Island in Iran and Umm Al Quwain in the United Arab Emirates, on the western side of the strait.”

The authority noted that any transit through this area requires prior coordination and authorization from the PGSA.

The move comes as Iran imposed tighter control over the vital corridor, effectively closing it to adversaries and their allies in response to the United States’ and the Israeli regime’s aggression against the Islamic Republic.

Restrictions were further intensified after US President Donald Trump announced the continuation of a naval blockade targeting Iranian vessels and ports on April 13, a step Tehran says violates a ceasefire the US president had earlier declared unilaterally.

Amid the developments, Iran introduced the PGSA as a new institutional mechanism to regulate and oversee vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
