Maariv Israeli newspaper said on Wednesday that the “sea is on fire,” citing attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Hebrew-language newspaper’s Eli Leon noted that the attacks occurred against the backdrop of a tense ceasefire between Iran and the US.
“The attacks in the critical shipping lane come at a particularly sensitive political time. Shortly before the reports of the incidents at sea, US President Donald Trump announced that his country would extend the ceasefire with Iran,” Leon wrote.
“The purpose of the extension, according to the president, It is to allow the leadership in Tehran to formulate and submit a “unified proposal” that will bring an end to the war. However, it seems that the message currently being conveyed by the Revolutionary Guards on the ground presents a completely different picture than that painted in the diplomatic negotiating rooms,” the Israeli journalist stated.
He cited an attack that was reported by the UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency, UKMTO, which targeted two cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday morning.

This incident occurred just hours after a serious attack on More. Earlier, at 05:47 (London time), a container ship was attacked about 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. According to the UKMTO, an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps warship approached the cargo ship and opened fire on it. As a result of the Iranian attack, heavy damage was caused to the ship’s bridge, but in this case, too, all crew members were reported to be unharmed.
