Zionist officials lashed out at UNESCO on Friday after they failed to recognize the Zionist entity’s “historic connection to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall,” the holiest sites for Jewish people.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) passed a draft resolution on Thursday that maintains that the Western Wall and Temple Mount will be referred to by their Arabic names. The Hebrew terms for the holy sites will only appear in quotation marks in UN references.
Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unleashed a barrage of criticism over the UNESCO decision to not recognize the entity’s historic claims to the holy sites, known to Muslims as the Haram esh-Sharif.
“The theatre of the absurd continues with UNESCO and today the organization has made its most bizarre decision by saying the people of Israel have no connection to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall,” Netanyahu said in Hebrew.
Calling the UN body’s decision “absurd,” the Zionist PM advised “UNESCO members to visit the Arch of Titus in Rome, where they can see what the Romans brought to Rome after they destroyed and looted the Temple Mount two thousand years ago. One can see engraved on the arch the seven-branched menorah, which is the symbol of the Jewish people as well as the symbol of the Jewish State today.
“Surely UNESCO will say that Emperor Titus was a part of Zionist propaganda,” he noted wryly.
Moreover, Zionist entity suspended cooperation with UNESCO on Friday after the UN cultural organisation adopted two resolutions on annexed east Al Quds ahead of a final vote next week.
In a letter sent to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, Education Minister Naftali Bennett accused the body of ignoring “thousands of years of Jewish ties to Jerusalem” and aiding “Islamist terror,” in reference to the oppressed Palestinian people.
“I have notified the Israeli National Commission for UNESCO to suspend all professional activities with the international organisation,” he said.
Both of resolutions refer to “Occupied Palestine” and aim to “safeguard the Palestinian cultural heritage and the distinctive character of East Jerusalem.”
