A Lebanese citizen was martyred Tuesday evening as a result of an airstrike carried out by an Israeli drone. The strike targeted him while he was riding a motorcycle in the town of Yater, Bint Jbeil District. The attack occurred amid intense drone activity in the area, reflecting a renewed Israeli escalation on the southern front.
The new attack adds to a series of ongoing air and artillery attacks by the occupation forces on Lebanese territory, in a blatant violation of the undeclared ceasefire agreement reached through international mediation in November 2023.
The agreement stipulated a cessation of hostilities, but the Israeli occupation has not actually complied with any of its provisions. Since then, it has committed hundreds of violations, documented by field and human rights organizations, including raids, drone assassinations, artillery shelling, and direct targeting of civilian homes and property.
Despite the seriousness of these violations, the UN Tripartite Committee, which oversees the implementation of the ceasefire, has not issued any statements of condemnation or taken any public positions. This has raised widespread questions about its effectiveness and impartiality, amid local accusations that it has become a false witness to daily Israeli violations without playing any serious deterrent or documentation role.
Inside Lebanon, official performance is facing mounting criticism from political, human rights, and popular forces. The government is content with expressing symbolic positions without taking effective action at the legal and diplomatic levels, whether by submitting complaints to the Security Council or activating the role of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry in international forums.
