The Department of Public Relations of the Ministry of Security in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran announced that one of the members of the cell behind the assassination of Mowlavi Abdulvahed Rigi, the Sunni Imam and preacher of the Imam Hussein Mosque in the city of Khash, was linked to an Arab country.
According to the official statement, Wednesday, this same cell had planned to assassinate another individual once the situation calmed down.
Furthermore, the statement noted that “after the arrest of the individuals involved in the assassination of the martyr Rigi, the preliminary investigations revealed the circumstances of the kidnapping, the place of detention of the martyr, and the method of his killing.”
The Public Relations Department in Sistan and Baluchestan stated that it had assigned a special investigation unit to the case due to its complexity.
The unit will carry out a deeper investigation into the link of one of the cell members with an Arab country, and the meetings that followed in the same country. Results from the investigation will be revealed at a later time.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced that security forces arrested the main perpetrators of the assassination of Mowlavi Abdolvahed Rigi, a Sunni cleric in the Sistan and Baluchestan province.
In a statement, the Ministry indicated that three of the main perpetrators of the assassination of Rigi were identified and arrested in cooperation with the provincial police.
