The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson reiterated that Iran’s missile and defense capabilities would by no means be subject to negotiations.
In remarks at a press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh rejected the calls from US president-elect Joe Biden’s team for talks on Iran’s missile program.
“No negotiation has been, is being, or will be held about Iran’s defense power,” he underscored.
He also noted that the issues surrounding Iran’s missile capabilities have been settled once and for all under the UNSC Resolution 2231 that endorses the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“The topic of missile is basically a secondary discussion. We basically do not renegotiate any part of anything that had been already negotiated under the JCPOA,” he added.
The spokesperson also emphasized that the 2015 nuclear deal must be implemented in full and without any preconditions.
Iranian political and military officials have time and again maintained that defense and missile capabilities are Tehran’s red line.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has reiterated on various occasions that Iran’s defense capabilities and power are not subject to negotiations.
“We will have no bargaining and dealing with the enemy over the country’s means of defense and over whatever provides or supports the national power,” the Leader said in October 2017.
