Iran’s Foreign Ministry has issued a sharp condemnation of the latest United States airstrikes on its southern territories, asserting that the military action demonstrates Washington’s utter disregard for its international obligations and a pattern of habitual promise-breaking.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the ministry denounced what it characterized as “barbaric attacks” that targeted multiple monitoring and surveillance facilities along Iran’s southern coastline during the early morning hours. The raids, according to the Iranian government, represent a flagrant violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which explicitly prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
Beyond the breach of the UN Charter, Tehran also pointed to a direct infraction of the June 18 memorandum of understanding the agreement that formally ended the conflict initiated by the US and Israel against Iran in late February. The Foreign Ministry argued that the latest strikes effectively nullify the spirit of that accord, underscoring what it describes as the US administration’s fundamental unreliability.
“These attacks show that the US regime places no value on its commitments and that breaking its promises is part of its nature,” the statement read, signaling a deepening rift between the two nations amid escalating regional tensions.
In its response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has called upon the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to urgently uphold their mandates in preserving international peace and security. Furthermore, Tehran reaffirmed its steadfast determination to defend its national sovereignty, invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter, which enshrines the inherent right of self-defense against armed aggression.
The airstrikes mark the most significant military escalation in the region since the ceasefire agreement, raising concerns among international observers about the fragility of the current diplomatic framework. As of press time, the US administration has yet to issue an official response to Iran’s accusations.
