Iran and the United States have finalized the text of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that would immediately end all military operations across every front including Lebanon and terminate the US naval blockade against Iran, according to a late-night announcement from Tehran’s top security body.
The secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) confirmed the breakthrough in a statement released Monday night, saying the agreement follows a period of difficult, intensive negotiations.
“Based on the approval of the Supreme National Security Council, the text of the memorandum of understanding regarding the end-of-war negotiations (Islamabad talks) between Iran and the United States was finalized on the evening of June 15,” the statement read.
The SNSC secretariat emphasized that the Islamic Republic was guided by its martyred former Leader, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the directives of the current Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the unwavering support of the Iranian people, and the tireless efforts of the country’s armed forces.
“Under the agreements reached, the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, are ended immediately and permanently. Furthermore, the naval blockade against Iran is terminated immediately and completely,” the secretariat added.
The MoU is scheduled to be formally signed on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. According to the SNSC, further talks toward a final agreement will be postponed until after the other side has fully implemented its commitments under the memorandum.
The statement expressed gratitude to Pakistan and Qatar for their mediation efforts. The announcement follows earlier confirmations from Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In Washington, US President Donald Trump welcomed the development on his Truth Social platform, authorizing the immediate lifting of the naval blockade. No further details on the implementation timeline were immediately available.
