An article in the Hebrew newspaper Yediot Aharonot by writer Hen Artzi said that “the Prime Minister, in an attempt to repair public opinion amid the faltering operation in the north, has desperately invoked Beaufort Castle to manufacture a sense of national pride.”
The article, published on Saturday, added, “He failed to mention that the 1982 battle marked the beginning of 18 years of entanglement in the Lebanese quagmire, which claimed the lives of hundreds of fighters.”
“His claim that ‘today we have reached a different Beaufort Castle’ is false: every issue, even the smallest, remains a source of deep division within Israel”, it continued.
The article concluded that “the continuation of the war, the manner in which it is being conducted, and the deployment of fighters to security zones all remain highly questionable.”
The Israeli occupation army claimed last week its forces had taken control of the the 900-year-old fortress located in southern Lebanon.
However, Hezbollah dismissed hat Israeli claims as a “media stunt” aimed at boosting morale among settlers in northern occupied territories.
