Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday offered condolences to Lebanese Army Chief General Rodolphe Haylkal on martyrdom of two officers and a soldier in an Israeli attack on their vehicle in southern Lebanon.

Speaker Berri contacted General Haykal “to offer his condolences to the military institution, its leadership, officers, and personnel,” Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.

It added that the Lebanese Speaker also conveyed condolences to the families of Brigadier General Wissam Sabra, Captain Elie Khouri and the soldier Hasan Ghazal on their martyrdom.

Stressing the premeditation of the Israeli attack, NNA quoted Speaker Berri as saying: “Today’s crime is by no means a mistake or a mere suspicion, as Israel tries to justify.”

Earlier on Saturday, President Joseph Aoun said that the Israeli attack on the Lebanese Army “constitutes flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international laws, as it forms part of escalation that threatens stability and security in southern Lebanon.”

He called on international community to “assume responsibilities, intervene to stop repeated Israeli attacks and enforce international resolutions,” according to a post on Lebanese Presidency’s X account.
