‘Israel Hayom’ Column: Netanyahu Has Led Israel Into Isolation, Relying on ‘One Unpredictable Man’

In a sharp critique published Monday, Israeli writer and military analyst Yoav Limor has dismissed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent claim of “breaking the barrier of fear,” warning that Israel is sliding into unprecedented political and international isolation under his leadership.

Writing in the Hebrew-language newspaper ‘Israel Hayom’, Limor argued that recent developments have laid bare the depths of Israel’s predicament on both the political and global stages. He singled out US President Donald Trump, stating that the American leader has effectively exposed the reality to which Netanyahu has steered Israel: a country suffering from growing isolation and leaning almost entirely on the support of a single, unpredictable individual a clear reference to Trump, whose term in office is limited.

Limor further charged that Netanyahu’s policies have eroded American public backing for Israel and widened the rift with large segments of US Jewry, particularly the Reform and Conservative movements, which together represent the majority of the Jewish community in the United States.

In a related vein, Limor ridiculed Netanyahu’s triumphant declaration about “breaking the barrier of fear” following the deployment of Golani Brigade forces to the Beaufort Heights. Questioning the very notion of “fear,” Limor noted that soldiers who have fought on the fronts in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank along with pilots who carried out strikes in Iran and Yemen can hardly be described as fearful.

The analyst concluded that such rhetoric belongs to a pattern of political and media spin aimed at manufacturing an image of victory, even as growing doubts inside Israel focus on the effectiveness of current military policies and their damaging impact on the country’s regional and international standing.
