Iran announced on Monday that it has reached “understandings on many of the issues under discussion” with the US via Pakistani-mediated talks, but cautioned that an agreement is not imminent.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the recent developments follow several weeks of negotiations facilitated by Pakistan, with other countries also playing roles. He clarified: “It is true that we have reached understandings on many of the issues under discussion, but to say this means an imminent agreement is untrue and not an accurate claim.”

Baghaei pointed to “frequent shifts in the positions of American officials” as a major obstacle. “This is hindering any dialogue,” he stated.

Nevertheless, he added that Iran will continue to act decisively in diplomacy, just as it has on the battlefield. “We will work with open eyes, taking past experiences into account, in order to safeguard Iran’s national interests.”

The spokesman also emphasized that “a ceasefire on all fronts, especially in Lebanon, is a fundamental element of any agreement.”
