Israeli Army Grapples with Post-War Psychological Impact: 21 Soldiers Committed Suicide in 2025

Israeli occupation army announced on Tuesday that 21 soldiers have committed suicide in 2025, a further indication of the worsening psychological crisis within its ranks following the Gaza war.

In its data on soldier deaths in 2025, the occupation army indicated that 11 of those who committed suicide were conscripts, 9 were reservists, and one was a regular soldier.

The Israeli army acknowledged on Tuesday evening that 21 soldiers have committed suicide since the beginning of 2025, a further indication of the worsening psychological crisis within its ranks following the Gaza war.

“According to the military, a total of 151 soldiers died in 2025. Of those, 88 were killed during operational activity and three in terror attacks. Another 15 soldiers died of illness, while 21 deaths were ruled,” The Times of Israel reported.

“The number of deaths classified as suicides remained roughly the same as the previous year, as the military grapples with the long-term psychological impact of the war on its personnel,” the Israeli media outlet added.

It noted that chief Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir instructed the IDF to implement recommendations made by a committee tasked with examining the military’s response to suicides linked to psychological trauma from military service.

Earlier this month, an Israeli soldier killed himself in a military base in northern Israel, taking the suicide-related death toll since the beginning of the Gaza war in October 2023 to 61.

Nearly 10,000 Israeli soldiers out of 19,000 injured in Gaza are suffering from psychological disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and are being treated at the Defense Ministry’s Rehabilitation Department, according to a previous report by the public broadcaster KAN published in late July.
