Targeting the Lifeline in Lebanon: Israeli Escalation Mounts as Strikes Hit Paramedics in South

An ambulance was targeted by Israeli drone in the soutehrn Lebanese city of Bint Jbeil, resulting in martyrdom of a paramedic and a wounded civilian (March 29, 2026).

The Israeli enemy has intensified its attacks across southern Lebanon, with a troubling escalation in the targeting of medical and emergency personnel.

In a grave incident on Sunday, an enemy drone struck an ambulance operated by the Islamic Health Association (IHA) near the Martyr Salah Ghandour Hospital in Bint Jbeil, killing two people—a paramedic and a wounded civilian who was being transported for treatment.

The escalation did not stop there. Israeli enemy aircraft also targeted a Civil Defense center affiliated with the IHA in the town of Deir Kifa, further endangering rescue teams and disrupting emergency response operations.

The attacks underscores growing concerns over the safety of first responders working under fire in light of a clear and deliberate Israeli pattern of attacks affecting paramedics and humanitarian workers on the ground.

Earlier on Saturday, Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus voiced deep concern over the repeated targeting of paramedics and healthcare workers in southern Lebanon, describing the killings as a tragic development.

He stressed that medical personnel were being struck while carrying out their duties, warning that such attacks are further worsening an already critical humanitarian situation.

Continuous Israeli Raids

Israeli attacks on paramedics come amid continued aerial raids and artillery shelling on multiple towns across the south on Sunday.

Israeli warplanes launched raids on the towns of Shaqra, Tayri, and Jouya, while heavy artillery shelling pounded the Wadi Al-Salouqi area and the outskirts of several communities, including Majdal Selm, Qabrikha, Safad al-Batikh, Barashit, Beit Yahoun, Haris, and Hadatha, in addition to renewed strikes on Shaqra, Al-Manar correspondents across southern Lebanon reported.
