Mosque Attack in Homs Kills Three, Wounds Five in IED Blast

An explosion inside a mosque in the city of Homs on Friday resulted in multiple casualties, according to official Syrian media. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that three people were killed and five others wounded in the blast at the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque, located in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood.

A security source, speaking to SANA, stated that preliminary investigations point to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted inside the mosque as the cause of the explosion. This account was promptly confirmed by the media director of Homs Governorate, who announced, “the explosion that occurred inside the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque was caused by an IED,” marking the first official statement on the incident’s nature.
