While Mechanism Convenes in Lebanon’s Naqoura, Israeli Enemy Drops Bomb Nearby

The Mechanism committee convened on Friday in the southern border town of Naqoura, with the Zionist enemy clearly delivering a message of threat by dropping a bomb near the area of the meeting.

The five-member committee convened for its 15th meeting since the ceasefire between Lebanon and the Zionist entity took effect on November 27, 2024, following a brutal 66-day Israeli war.

The committee includes, in addition to Lebanon and ‘Israel’, the US, France and the UN as sponsor sides.

Al-Manar correspondent in south Lebanon reported that as the Mechanism convened, an Israeli glider dropped a stun grenade off the Ras Naqoura coast, just 500 meters away from the location of the meeting.

Former Lebanese ambassador Simon Karam, who was appointed by Beirut early this month as a “civilian” representative, headed the Lebanese delegation to the Friday meeting, while US envoy Morgan Ortagus was present, according to our reporter.

The meeting on Friday marks the second one for Karam as a “civilian representative” of Lebanon. He participated in the previous meeting which took place in Naqoura earlier this month (December 3).

Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem condemned the move by the Lebanese authorities to appoint a so-called civilian representative, stressing that the Mechanism meetings should be limited to discussing military and technical issues regarding the implementation of the ceasefire.

Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri also opposed the move to appoint Karam, and he has been refusing to meet with the former ambassador.
