Lebanese Army Exclusively Controls Hamat Air Base: Defense Minister

The Lebanese Minister of National Defense, General Michel Mnassah, issued a statement to comment on recent reports about the Hamat Air Base in the Batroun district of North Lebanon Governorate in light of the regional developments.

Mnassah said that Hamat Air Base is a Lebanese military airbase under the Lebanese Air Force, adding that no other entity has authority or jurisdiction above Lebanese laws and regulations.

“All activities at the base are under the supervision and approval of the Lebanese Army Command. The base, like other military sites, hosts foreign training teams working under the Lebanese military’s rules and regulations for various military units.”

“Hamat Air Base, along with Beirut Air Base and Rayak Air Base, receives assistance for the Lebanese Army, including military equipment and supplies, through flights from foreign countries under cooperation protocols,” he added, “These flights are approved and supervised by relevant Lebanese authorities.”

Rumors are aimed at undermining the credibility of the Lebanese military institution, which has been built through the sacrifices of its martyrs and the efforts of its officers and soldiers, Mnassah noted.
