Amid the rapidly rising tensions in the Middle East over the directions of the Iranian nuclear file, and anti-Iran propaganda has been promoting an inevitable US military action against the Islamic Republic in the context of escalating pressures on Tehran drafting a potential deal.
The split screen between talk of peace in Washington and drumbeats of war in the Middle East struck some analysts and former officials as incongruous, if not incoherent, The Washington Post considered.
The paper reported that President Donald Trump told the world leaders and diplomats assembled in Washington to attend his “Board of Peace” that “there was nothing more important than peace.”
Meanwhile, it reported the gathering a massive amount of US war-fighting machinery in the Middle East as a strong sign of war.
The US could strike Iran as soon as this weekend, the paper noted but quoted officials as caution the president has not made a final decision.
The US paper also mentioned that Trump is considering the choice of a limited strike on Iran.
“On Friday morning, during a breakfast with governors at the White House, Trump appeared to confirm one option was a limited strike on Iran. ‘I guess I can say I am considering it,’ Trump told reporters.”
On Friday, Araghchi said that Iran would have a draft deal ready in two or three days. “Perhaps in a week or so we can start real, serious negotiations on the text and come to an agreement.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said a general agreement has been reached on guiding principles in the second round of indirect nuclear negotiations with the US, describing the talks as serious and more constructive than the previous round.
Speaking after the conclusion of the second round of indirect talks, held at the Omani embassy in Geneva on Tuesday, Araqchi said the negotiations were conducted in a serious atmosphere and were more constructive compared to the earlier round.
