Lebanon President Aoun: Reconstruction of Southern Border Towns Top Priority

A delegation representing civil society in south Lebanon visited President Joseph Aoun on Friday to demand an action by the Lebanese State to stop Israeli attacks and exert reconstruction efforts.

During the meeting, President Aoun said that the reconstruction of the destroyed houses in southern villages come at the top of the state’s priorities.

“The reconstruction of the destroyed and damaged southern villages and towns is at the top of the priorities, to facilitate the return of the people of these villages to their properties and lands,” President Aoun said, according to Lebanese Presidency.

He ruled out “all what has been said about empty or economic zones,” saying that “it was just a talk on media that no one has brought up with us.”

The delegation included MP Ali Fayyad, member of Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, MP Ashraf Baydoun, member of Development and Liberation bloc, and the heads of the Bint Jbeil and Jabal Amel municipal unions, as well as 26 mayors from Naqoura to Khiam.

In a separate meeting with a delegation from the family of retired Captain Ahmad Shukr, President Aoun said the file of Lebanese detainees held by the Israeli occupation is under daily follow-upand and being addressed within negotiations before the Mechanism Committee overseeing the 2024 ceasefire.

He added that security agencies have uncovered the circumstances surrounding Shukr’s abduction and are continuing investigations with one suspect in custody.
