The Syrian Transitional Administration has announced a 15-day extension of the ceasefire agreed upon with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), after the initial truce expired without the implementation of agreed-upon measures.
According to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), citing the Syrian Ministry of Defense late on Saturday, January 24, 2026, the government has extended the ceasefire across all operational sectors of the Syrian Arab Army for an additional 15 days.
The ministry said the extension comes in support of a US-led process to transfer ISIL detainees from SDF-run prisons to Iraq, according to its statement.

Earlier, SANA quoted a government source as saying that the ceasefire with the SDF had expired and that the Syrian government was reviewing its available options.
For its part, the SDF announced that an agreement had been reached to extend the ceasefire for 15 days under international mediation, alongside the continuation of dialogue with Damascus.
In a statement, the SDF affirmed its commitment to the agreement, stressing its intention to uphold the truce in a way that contributes to de-escalation, civilian protection, and the creation of conditions conducive to stability.
Hours before the temporary ceasefire was due to expire, the SDF accused the Syrian Transitional Administration of deploying military reinforcements aimed at escalating tensions and pushing the region toward a new confrontation.
